Art of the Day - 13/04/11

Claude Monet - Water Lilies

This is a gorgeous painting, looking so real, yet capturing the beauty of the flower, water lilies. Claude Monet was an impressionist. But it was his clever techniques that brought his pieces of work alive. When painting flowers, he would simply put dot of paint on them, so from far away they looked very real. A technique used today, which is very easy once you know how to do it.
Monet liked painting water especially. Most of his pieces had water in them. But the way the water was painting was amazing. As you can see in this painting, there are the reflections of the water lilies, and then the water. He made it look so real.
So there you go, Claude Monet's Water Lilies.

Art of the Day - 12/04/2011

Hey blog followers, I have thought of 'Art of the Day'. Here I will write about the art.
Henri Matisse - The Woman with the hat

Many may think at first, what is this painting with all the crazy colours? Others will look at it, and think it is cool, and fits together so well that they didn't notice all the colours on the face of the woman. But Matisse's expressionist painting depicts a lot of emotion within it. It is the beauty of the colours he's used work so well together. This painting oozes feeling and emotion, and you can see that being an expressionist, Henri has done well to show his viewers of the  emotion in the painting.
However, it is not just the colours, it is the techniques he's used. By using a base of hot colours on the face, and side of the face, it stands out more. By using lighter colours in the background, it gives the painting depth.
And the hat? The hat is the most wonderful piece of the painting. Call it being a statement, he used statement fashion to make his pieces stand out! Without this hat, the painting would never have been called 'The Woman with the hat'. Such a simple name, defining exactly the obvious in the painting, yet such a beautiful expressive painting.
  Hats off to you Matisse!

Trend: Wide Leg Trousers

The wide leg trouser is back in fashion. Originally from the 70's, 70's style is appearing on catwalks now. See this picture to see how different designers are wearing them.

Trends this season...

Featured in the latest S/S'11 catwalk shows, these are the latest trends about:
- Tropical fruity prints.
This season, fruity and tropical prints are so in with bright bold colours, it is time to make a statement. When in Winter we saw neutral shades, Spring and Summer feature eye popping colours.

- Blue.
Blue? That could mean anything. Now fashion is going through a phase of blue. It is so in, that you can wear any hues of blue, but still look trendy. Whilst the likes of Diane von Fursternburg, Mulberry and Jaeger feature dark royal blue, DKNY, Christian Dior and Peter Pilotto opt for lighter blues. Where with silky black belts or glossy bags to add texture.

-Romance and Lace
Erdem was loving the lace at the moment, and it gave a very romantic and feminine feel to spring. Go romantic and lacy this spring. Lace is so in right now, that it looks very good with some brogues, or flats. Even heels will do. But try not to over power the lacy look, and keep it very soft.

Welcome and About! ♥

Hey blog readers/followers!
This is my first blog, and was a total overnight idea. In fact as I type this now, it is 10:57pm in the city of London.
This blog is all about 'The Arts' and 'Fashion' hence the name. I am very passionate about these two things, and I feel that I should share with you what the world has to offer in these categories. Being a young girl growing up in London, culture is a very important thing to me. I love people like the likes of Alexa Chung, Olivia Palermo, Fearne Cotton, and all those amazing fashionista's. I feel that fashion isn't just knowing your Gucci's to Chanel's, it is about the whole art and beauty of fashion. The inspiration, and the amazing world inside and out.
But art is important to me too. In my spare time I paint. Using acrylics and some brushes, I paint expressionist paintings or impressionist paintings. Those two types of painting I feel I can express the most emotion in, or have a go at my own interpretation.
So this blog is all about the arts and fashion scene. I will update you on what is new from the runways, art exhibitions, artists, designers and trends that you all need to know.

Have fun reading and watch this space!
